Key Stage 3 Science

In Year 8, 9 and 10, pupils will have opportunities to:

  • Develop a range of practical skills
  • Develop skills in scientific methods of enquiry
  • Plan for investigations, obtaining evidence, presenting and interpreting results
  • Develop creative and critical thinking in their approach to solving scientific problems
  • Research scientific information from a range of sources
  • Complete end of unit tests

Year 8 Units:

  • Healthy Living

Year 9 Units:

  • Forces and Energy
  • Electricity and Magnetism
  • Separating Mixtures
  • Organisms and Health
  • Reproduction

Year 10 Units:

  • Chemical Reactions
  • Materials
  • The Universe and Radiation
  • Forces
  • Gas Exchange and Respiration
  • Cells and DNA

During Year 10 pupils are given the opportunity to choose from Single Award Science or Double Award Science.  Pupils and their parents are involved in meetings with the staff in regards to GCSE subject choices.
